World MRSA Day is on Friday, October 2. MRSA is a disease that is becoming virulent, and it is being reported on worldwide.
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that causes infections in different parts of the body. It's tougher to treat than most strains of staphylococcus aureus -- or staph -- because it's resistant to some commonly used antibiotics.
The best available treatment for MRSA is vancomycin, however vancomycin is only available in certain dosage forms. Mupirocin has also shown to be effective in certain cases.
