Atopic dermatitis is an allergic skin syndrome characterized by itchy and inflammed skin, and ranks second in skin problems behind flea allergies.  Atopic dermatitis in cats is an allergic reaction to a substance that is inhaled, such as dust or pollen.  Cats become extremely itchy, and will scratch or lick themselves excessively to find relief.
