What is Pain

Pain is a widespread and often debilitating sensation caused by various physical and psychological sources. It can range from mild to severe, acute or chronic, and may last for seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months, or even years.

Topical Pain

Topical pain relief is an efficient and effective way to treat various types of pain. Topical medications are applied directly to discomfort and can provide rapid relief from mild to moderate discomfort associated with conditions such as muscle aches, joint pain, arthritis, headaches, and other conditions. These topical products contain active ingredients like analgesics, menthols, salicylates, capsaicin, lidocaine/prilocaine, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

At Bayview Pharmacy, we understand how difficult pain can be to manage. Our team is committed to providing the highest quality care for individuals suffering from acute and chronic pain. Our experienced compounding pharmacists can provide personalized consultations and develop tailored treatment plans to address individual needs.

Our customized compounded medications are specifically designed with active ingredients to help reduce pain intensity while improving patients’ overall quality of life. In addition, our knowledgeable staff will work closely with your healthcare provider(s) to ensure optimal results.

Treatment Options Available

There are a variety of treatment options available for all types of pain, including neuropathic, topical, and others. Some of the most common include:

Creams and Gels

Our compounding pharmacy can create custom-made creams and gels for treating different types of pain. These may include diabetic neuropathy, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and knee, shoulder, or back pain.  These creams and gels are made in our state-of-the-art compounding laboratories by our certified technicians and pharmacists and are made specifically for every patient's needs.

Oral Medications

Oral medications are a popular treatment option for pain management, and our compounding pharmacy offers custom-made oral medications to address individual needs. Our experienced pharmacists can formulate personalized medications with active ingredients that target specific pain conditions, including diabetic neuropathy, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and knee, shoulder, or back pain.

Troches

Ketamine troches are a fast-acting, powerful form of medication that can provide relief from pain. Developed by our compounding pharmacists at Bayview Pharmacy, these troches are formulated with ketamine, a medication used to treat severe pain and sedation. The troches are placed under the tongue and dissolve quickly, providing rapid relief from acute and chronic pain.

Ketamine is unique in that it has both analgesic and anesthetic properties. It works by blocking the transmission of pain signals to the brain, thus reducing the intensity of pain sensations. As an anesthetic agent, it depresses neural activity in the central nervous system (CNS). This helps to decrease anxiety and produces a calming effect on patients.

While ketamine has been used for decades as an anesthetic in hospitals, its use in compounding troches has become increasingly popular due to its effectiveness in treating chronic pain. By delivering medication directly into the bloodstream through oral absorption, ketamine-based troches provide quicker relief than other administration forms such as injection or topical application. Furthermore, it is well tolerated, with few side effects such as dizziness or nausea compared to alternative treatments like opioids.

The effectiveness of ketamine troches lies not only in their ability to reduce pain rapidly but also in their ability to prolong the duration of their effects over time. Studies have shown that after taking a single dose of ketamine, patients experience significant reductions in subjective pain intensity ratings within minutes following administration; however, it can take several hours before those effects begin to wear off completely. This extended duration allows the patient more control over their pain management plan as they can adjust doses depending on individual needs and preferences.

At Bayview Pharmacy, we understand how difficult it can be to find effective treatment options for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia or arthritis. We strive to provide personalized care tailored specifically for each patient’s needs by creating custom compounded medications using active ingredients like ketamine that work quickly and effectively.

Low Dose Naltrexone

Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) is a prescription medication that reduces the severity of various medical conditions, including chronic pain. LDN works by blocking opiate receptors in the brain, thus reducing pain signals and improving quality of life. It has been used to treat multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia, and other chronic pain issues for many years.

LDN is typically taken in capsule form at a lower dose than standard opioid medications but with similar effects. The lower dosage helps to minimize side effects while still providing the same degree of relief. In addition to reducing pain levels, LDN has been found to improve sleep quality and reduce fatigue in patients with chronic conditions.

Unlike some opioid medications, which can be habit-forming or cause physical dependence if taken long-term, LDN appears to be better tolerated with fewer side effects and risks of addiction when used as prescribed. Some people may experience mild side effects such as nausea or headaches when taking LDN; however, these are usually temporary and will resolve independently without additional treatment.

LDN is not a one-size-fits-all solution for treating chronic pain; it should only be used after consulting with a doctor or pharmacist about the appropriateness of this medication for your condition. It’s important to note that because LDN works to block opiate receptors in the brain, it may not work as well for those who have already become dependent on opioids or are already taking high doses of opioid medications.

Despite its limitations and potential side effects, low-dose naltrexone remains an important option for managing certain chronic pain conditions—especially those that don’t respond well to traditional treatments like NSAID medications or opioids alone. Talk with your doctor about whether this could be right for you if you suffer from persistent symptoms that interfere with your daily life despite other existing treatments.
