Formula Information

Acetaminophen 325 mg/Oxycodone HCl 5 mg Capsules is a compounded formulation designed to alleviate moderate to severe pain. This combination medication contains two active ingredients: acetaminophen, a well-known analgesic and antipyretic, and oxycodone hydrochloride, a potent opioid agonist. This formulation is specifically indicated for adults who require relief from moderate to severe pain and for whom other non-opioid analgesics have proven insufficient.

The synergistic analgesic effect of acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride allows for a lower dose of each component to be used, potentially reducing the risk of side effects. This medication is encapsulated in a solid dosage form, composed of two gelatin or vegetarian shells. This design not only facilitates easy swallowing but also ensures a precise dosage of the active ingredients, enhancing the safety and efficacy of the medication.

When taking Acetaminophen 325 mg/Oxycodone HCl 5 mg Capsules, it is crucial to adhere to the directions provided by your healthcare provider. The dosage should be tailored to the severity of the pain and the patient's response to the medication. It is essential to take the medication as prescribed and not to exceed the recommended dose to avoid potential adverse effects.

If you have any questions or concerns about Acetaminophen 325 mg/Oxycodone HCl 5 mg Capsules, please do not hesitate to contact us at Bayview Pharmacy. Our team of experienced compounding pharmacists is committed to providing comprehensive information and support to ensure the safe and appropriate use of this medication.

Drug Interactions

A small arrow pointing down

This compounded formulation of Acetaminophen 325 mg/Oxycodone HCl 5 mg Capsules is designed to provide relief from moderate to severe pain. The medication is enclosed within two gelatin or vegetarian shells, ensuring a precise dosage and facilitating easy swallowing. However, it is crucial to note that this formulation is not suitable for patients with severe hepatic impairment due to the increased risk of toxicity. It is also not recommended for individuals with a history of opioid abuse or addiction.

Patients are advised to follow the dosage instructions provided by their healthcare provider strictly. Overdosing can lead to an increased risk of adverse effects. Concurrent consumption of alcohol should be avoided as it can exacerbate these adverse effects.

Regular monitoring for signs of opioid toxicity, such as respiratory depression, sedation, and constipation, is necessary. Similarly, signs of acetaminophen toxicity, including nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, should be closely watched for. Patients should also be aware that this formulation may cause drowsiness and impair judgment, making it unsafe to drive or operate heavy machinery while under its influence.

This formulation may interact with other medications, including other opioids, sedatives, and anticholinergics. Therefore, patients should inform their healthcare provider about all the medications they are currently taking. This includes over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

If you have any questions or concerns about this formulation, please do not hesitate to reach out for further information. It is our priority to ensure that you are fully informed about your medication and its potential effects.

How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

This compounded formulation of Acetaminophen 325 mg/Oxycodone HCl 5 mg Capsules is a potent combination designed to alleviate moderate to severe pain. Acetaminophen, an analgesic and antipyretic, functions by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, substances in the body that contribute to pain and inflammation. Oxycodone HCl, an opioid agonist, operates by attaching to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, thereby obstructing the transmission of pain signals to the brain.

When using this formulation, it is crucial to adhere to your healthcare provider's instructions. The suggested dosage is one capsule every 4-6 hours as required for pain relief. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or take more than 4 capsules within a 24-hour period. It is also important to avoid consuming this medication with alcohol or other medications containing acetaminophen, as this can heighten the risk of liver damage.

This formulation is not advised for use in children under 12 years of age. It is also not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as it can potentially harm the developing fetus or infant.

If you have any queries about this formulation or its mechanism of action, please do not hesitate to contact us at Bayview Pharmacy.

Other Uses

A small arrow pointing down

Acetaminophen 325 mg/Oxycodone HCl 5 mg capsules are a compounded formulation designed for the management of moderate to severe pain. This unique combination brings together the analgesic and antipyretic properties of acetaminophen with the potent opioid analgesic effects of oxycodone.

This formulation is particularly beneficial for patients who require a long-acting opioid analgesic. Oxycodone, one of the key ingredients, has a longer duration of action compared to other opioids, making it a suitable choice for sustained pain management. However, it's important to note that this formulation is not indicated for the treatment of any specific disease states, but rather for the management of various types of pain.

Given the nature of the opioid component, patients using this formulation should be closely monitored for signs of misuse or abuse. It's crucial to ensure the medication is being used responsibly and as prescribed. If there are any questions or concerns regarding the use of this formulation, we encourage reaching out for further information and guidance.

Compounded preparations have no NDC, so this formula will not appear in your EHR's drug search. Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. If your EHR forces you to pick a listed drug, pick the closest entry for the active ingredient and put the full formula in the prescription body (the Sig or directions field), not in Notes to Pharmacy.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body. A free-text entry that does not validate as controlled will be rejected by your EPCS module.
