Forms a pet will actually take.

Many pets refuse tablets, need a dose smaller than any commercial strength, or are dosed by weight. Compounding fills those gaps on a veterinarian's prescription, in our Rhode Island pharmacy under USP standards. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved.

Questions pet owners and veterinarians ask

Does my pet need a prescription?

Yes. Every medication we compound for pets requires a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian. We are a compounding pharmacy, so we do not examine animals, provide consultations, or write prescriptions. If your pet needs a new medication, start with your veterinarian.

Why would my veterinarian prescribe a compounded medication?

Usually because an approved product does not suit your pet: your pet will not take a tablet, needs a dose smaller than any commercial strength, needs a liquid or an ear gel, or cannot have an ingredient in the approved product. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, and your veterinarian decides whether one is appropriate.

How do veterinarians send a prescription?

From a veterinary e-prescribing platform, by fax to (401) 284-4506 using our veterinary order form, or by phone at (401) 284-4505. Include the pet's name, species, breed, and current weight, and the owner's name and address.

Do veterinarians need an NPI to open an account?

No. The signup form accepts an NPI or a DEA number, and our team reviews veterinarian accounts. No account is needed to send a prescription by fax or phone.

Can I use my HSA or FSA for my pet's medication?

Pet medications are generally not eligible HSA or FSA expenses. Ask your plan administrator if you are unsure.
