Drug Interactions

Caffeine 0.005% Shampoo is a specialized liquid formulation designed for the dual purpose of cleansing and conditioning the hair and scalp. It is typically used during bathing or showering, where it provides a lathering and rinsing action to effectively remove dirt, oil, and impurities. Beyond its cleansing properties, this shampoo is also designed to promote healthy hair and scalp conditions.

This shampoo is specifically indicated for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis. The active ingredient, caffeine, has been shown to reduce inflammation and stimulate hair growth. It is believed to work by blocking the action of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that is responsible for hair loss in androgenetic alopecia.

Furthermore, caffeine possesses antioxidant properties, which may help to protect the scalp from damage caused by free radicals. It may also help to reduce sebum production, which can alleviate the symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis. Additionally, caffeine may help to reduce the inflammation associated with psoriasis.

It is important to note that Caffeine 0.005% Shampoo should not be used on broken or irritated skin. It is also not recommended for use on children under the age of 12. If you have any questions or concerns about using Caffeine 0.005% Shampoo, it is advised to seek professional advice.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body.
