How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

Ketamine HCl 1% Topical Gel is a specialized medication designed to address a range of conditions such as chronic pain, depression, and anxiety. The primary active ingredient is ketamine hydrochloride, a non-opioid analgesic that functions by inhibiting the transmission of pain signals to the brain. Additionally, it is thought to possess antidepressant and anxiolytic properties.

This topical gel is applied directly to the skin in the area experiencing discomfort. Upon application, it is absorbed through the skin and enters the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, it interacts with opioid receptors located in the brain and spinal cord, which aids in reducing pain and enhancing mood.

Generally, Ketamine HCl 1% Topical Gel is well tolerated with minimal side effects. Some of the common side effects that may be experienced include dry mouth, dizziness, and drowsiness. It is crucial to be aware that ketamine can potentially induce hallucinations and other psychological effects. Therefore, it should be administered with caution in individuals with a history of mental health disorders.

It is essential to adhere to the instructions provided by your healthcare provider when using this medication. If you have any queries or concerns, do not hesitate to seek professional advice.

Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body.
