How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

The Lidocaine HCl 2% Popsicle is a unique, compounded formulation of lidocaine hydrochloride, designed to provide targeted relief from various types of neuralgic and neuropathic pain, including postherpetic neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, and peripheral neuropathy. This innovative product takes the form of a frozen confection, offering a convenient and enjoyable method of delivering localized cooling and soothing sensations for temporary relief from discomfort or inflammation.

When applied directly to the affected area, the Lidocaine HCl 2% Popsicle works by numbing the area and blocking the transmission of pain signals to the brain. The active ingredient, lidocaine hydrochloride, is absorbed through the skin and enters the bloodstream. Here, it binds to sodium channels, effectively blocking the transmission of pain signals. This results in a localized numbing effect, providing temporary relief from pain.

The popsicle form of this medication allows for a more targeted application of the lidocaine hydrochloride, ensuring a more localized effect. Additionally, the popsicle form facilitates a more controlled release of the medication, allowing for a more sustained effect. This makes the Lidocaine HCl 2% Popsicle an ideal choice for short-term relief of pain.

It is important to note that the Lidocaine HCl 2% Popsicle should not be used for more than 7 days. Patients should be advised to avoid contact with the eyes, nose, and mouth when applying the medication and to wash their hands after application. In the event of any adverse reactions, patients should discontinue use immediately and contact their healthcare provider.

Compounded preparations have no NDC, so this formula will not appear in your EHR's drug search. Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. If your EHR forces you to pick a listed drug, pick the closest entry for the active ingredient and put the full formula in the prescription body (the Sig or directions field), not in Notes to Pharmacy.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body. A free-text entry that does not validate as controlled will be rejected by your EPCS module.
