Drug Interactions

How Does it Work

Misoprostol 0.0024%/Phenytoin 5%/Metronidazole 2% topical gel is a combination drug used to treat infected wounds and/or burns. Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analog that has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and anti-clotting properties. It works by inhibiting pro-inflammatory mediators at the site of injury or infection, thus reducing pain, swelling and the formation of excessive scar tissue. Phenytoin is an anticonvulsant drug that has wound healing properties due to its role in reducing the activity of neutrophils and monocytes at the site of injury, thus preventing further tissue damage. Metronidazole is an antibiotic drug that is effective against both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria within the wound, thereby promoting tissue healing. The combination of these three drugs works synergistically to reduce pain, swelling, and infection, while simultaneously promoting wound healing and tissue regeneration. The gel is applied directly to the wound and should be reapplied as required.

Other Uses

Misoprostol 0.0024%/Phenytoin 5%/Metronidazole 2% Topical Gel may be useful for treating dermatological conditions such as rosacea, skin tags, benign seborrheic keratoses, and psoriasis, as well as for preventing the recurrence of skin lesions. For example, the anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic effects of Misoprostol may help reduce the symptoms of rosacea, while Phenytoin exhibits antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that may be beneficial in treating skin tags and bening seborrheic keratoses. The anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties of Metronidazole may be useful for treating psoriasis, and its antibacterial action may be beneficial as a prophylactic agent against the recurrence of skin lesions.
