When used to treat erectile dysfunction, sildenafil 50 mg troche works by increasing blood flow to the penis, allowing for an erection. When used to treat priapism, sildenafil 50 mg troche works by decreasing the amount of blood flow to the penis, allowing for the erection to subside. It should not be used in patients who are taking nitrates, as this can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Patients should also be aware that sildenafil may cause side effects such as headache, flushing, and upset stomach.

Other Uses

A small arrow pointing down

Sildenafil 50 mg Troche is a square-shaped solid dosage form designed to dissolve slowly in the mouth, delivering medication through oral mucosa absorption for targeted local or systemic effects. This formulation is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and benign prostatic hyperplasia. However, it can also be used for other purposes, such as treating Raynaud's phenomenon, a condition in which the blood vessels in the fingers and toes spasm, reducing blood flow to the area. Additionally, sildenafil may be used to treat high-altitude pulmonary edema, a condition in which fluid accumulates in the lungs due to the low oxygen levels at high altitudes. It may also be used to treat primary pulmonary hypertension, a rare condition in which the blood pressure in the pulmonary artery is too high.

When using sildenafil 50 mg Troche, it is important to follow the instructions of your healthcare provider. The dosage and frequency of administration may vary depending on the condition being treated. It is important to note that this formulation should not be used in children or women. Compounded preparations have no NDC, so this formula will not appear in your EHR's drug search. Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. If your EHR forces you to pick a listed drug, pick the closest entry for the active ingredient and put the full formula in the prescription body (the Sig or directions field), not in Notes to Pharmacy.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body. A free-text entry that does not validate as controlled will be rejected by your EPCS module.
