How Does it Work
Acyclovir 5%/Lidocaine HCl 5%/Deoxy-D-Glucose (2) 2% Vaginal Gel is a combination antiviral and anesthetic topical treatment that is designed to treat Women's Health - Genital Herpes. Genital herpes is a common and contagious sexually transmitted infection that can cause recurrent outbreaks of blisters and sores. Acyclovir 5%/Lidocaine HCl 5%/Deoxy-D-Glucose (2) 2% Vaginal Gel works by combining Acyclovir, an antiviral, and Lidocaine HCl, a local anesthetic, in order to provide patients with relief from discomfort. Acyclovir works by inhibiting viral DNA replication which prevents viral shedding and subsequent spread of the virus. Additionally, Deoxy-D-Glucose (2) 2% is included to increase the therapeutic effects of the gel. By providing a protective, antiviral and anesthetic effect, Acyclovir 5%/Lidocaine HCl 5%/Deoxy-D-Glucose (2) 2% Vaginal Gel can be used to effectively treat genital herpes in women.
Other Uses
The compounded formulation of Acyclovir 5% / Lidocaine HCl 5% / Deoxy-D-Glucose (2) 2% Vaginal Gel may be used to provide symptomatic relief in cases of vulvovaginal itching and burning sensation caused by certain types of dermatoses, certain bacterial and fungal infections, or contact dermatitis. Additionally, the formulation may provide a topical anesthetic for pain relief in cases of vulvodynia, as well as providing a local anesthetic to ease discomfort from minor gynecologic procedures such as cervical biopsy or colposcopy. The gel may also be used to moisturize and lubricate the vulvar and vaginal mucosa to help maintain adequate vulvovaginal health and comfort.
