Formula Information

Spira-Wash™ Gel is an effective combination antibiotic formulation for treating wounds, infected wounds, and burns. The formulation consists of Gentamicin 1 mg/Gm, Clindamycin 1 mg/Gm, and Polymyxin B 2,000 U/Gm. Gentamicin is a potent aminoglycoside antibiotic which is effective against many Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria. Clindamycin, on the other hand, is a lincosamide antibiotic and is effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Finally, Polymyxin B is a polypeptide antibiotic and is capable of stopping the growth of many Gram-negative bacteria in wounds, infected wounds, and burns. Together, this formulation provides an effective means of treating multiple wound types. As a doctor, if you have any questions about the use of this formulation or the potential efficacy of it, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. How Does it Work

Gentamicin 1 mg/Gm / Clindamycin 1 mg/Gm / Polymyxin B 2,000 U/Gm Spira-Wash™ Gel is an effective topical treatment that can be used to treat infected wounds and burns. The combination of these three antibiotics provides a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that disrupts bacterial protein synthesis by interfering with ribosomal function. Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by forming a complex with the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing amino acyl transferase activity. Polymyxin B is a cationic polypeptide antibiotic that binds to the phospholipids of the bacterial cell membrane and disrupts its permeability, resulting in leakage of intracellular material and cell death. The Spira-Wash™ Gel formulation provides a slow release of the antibiotics into the wound, ensuring the sustained presence of the antibiotics and preventing the recurrence of infection. The gel has a sustained lubricant action that helps reduce friction and pain when applied to the wound. This helps to protect the wound surface and facilitate the healing process. Using the gel will help reduce the risk of infection and the need for systemic antibiotics, while helping to improve the healing of wounds and burns.

Other Uses

The compounded formulation of Gentamicin 1 mg/Gm / Clindamycin 1 mg/Gm / Polymyxin B 2,000 U/Gm Spira-Wash™ Gel, has multiple uses that are not limited to treating wounds and infected wounds/burns. It can be used in combination with suitable antibiotics for treating bacterial skin infections when the organisms are sensitive to Gentamicin, Clindamycin, and Polymyxin B. Additionally, this compounded formulation can be used in patients with prostate infections, folliculitis, and infected dermatitis. It can also be used as an adjunct to systemic treatment of deep-seated bone infections or severe eye infections caused by susceptible organisms. Finally, it can be used to treat otitis externa when the patient has failed topical treatments or cannot tolerate them.
