How Does it Work
Phenytoin 5% / Misoprostol 0.0024% Spira-Wash™ Gel is a topical combination treatment that can be used to treat non-infected wounds and burns. The combination of phenytoin and misoprostol in Spira-Wash™ Gel is designed to aid in wound healing and reduce scar formation. The phenytoin acts as an antimicrobial, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, while misoprostol, an antispasmodic, reduces inflammation. When applied, the gel penetrates the skin to the affected tissues, creating an impermeable, protective barrier, promoting tissue regeneration and reducing the risk of infection. The gel also helps stimulate fibroblast migration, increasing the production of collagen, which eventually leads to wound closure. The gel works by forming a physical barrier and hydrating the wound area, while also creating an environment where enzymes released by the wound bed can be activated. This helps to promote healing, while also reducing the risk of infection. Additionally, the gel may reduce pain, minimize the risk of scarring and decrease the time necessary for healing. Other Uses
Phenytoin 5% / Misoprostol 0.0024% Spira-Wash™ Gel may also be useful in the treatment of itching or irritation of skin lesions, as the anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic properties of Misoprostol can help provide relief.
