Pimobendan Hydrochloride is an inodilator heart medicine used in veterinary medicine that Bayview compounds to a prescriber's order.
Pimobendan is a veterinary inodilator used in dogs with heart failure. It is a benzimidazole-pyridazinone derivative and a nonsympathomimetic, non-glycoside inotropic drug that increases cardiac contractility by increasing the calcium sensitivity of cardiac myofilaments and by inhibiting phosphodiesterase III, which also produces vasodilation.[1]
The FDA-approved product (Vetmedin) is indicated for the management of the signs of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs due to clinical myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and for delaying the onset of congestive heart failure in dogs with Stage B2 preclinical MMVD.[1]

Pimobendan should not be given to dogs with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis, or any other condition where augmentation of cardiac output is inappropriate.[1] Concurrent use with beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers may reduce its positive inotropic effect.[1]
