Vardenafil Hydrochloride is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that Bayview compounds to a prescriber's order.
Vardenafil hydrochloride is an active pharmaceutical ingredient used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.[1] It is a selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), the enzyme that degrades cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum. During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide increases cGMP, which relaxes smooth muscle and increases blood flow; by inhibiting PDE5, vardenafil increases the amount of cGMP. Sexual stimulation is required for vardenafil to have an effect.[1]
Vardenafil is rapidly absorbed, with peak plasma concentrations reached between 30 minutes and 2 hours (median 60 minutes) after an oral dose, and it has a terminal half-life of approximately 4 to 5 hours.[1] In laboratory studies, vardenafil is more than 15-fold more selective for PDE5 than for PDE6 and more than 130-fold more selective than for PDE1.[1]
Clinical trials of vardenafil included men with erectile dysfunction and diabetes mellitus and men who had undergone prostatectomy.[1] Use with nitrates or nitric oxide donors is contraindicated because of the risk of dangerous drops in blood pressure.[1]

Usually within 30 to 60 minutes, lasting about 4 to 6 hours, a timing profile similar to sildenafil. The rapid dissolve and troche forms absorb through the mouth, which some men find gives a smoother, quicker experience. Sexual stimulation is still needed for it to work.
Anyone taking nitrates or riociguat, and anyone allergic to vardenafil. Vardenafil can slightly prolong the QT interval, so tell your provider about heart rhythm conditions such as long QT syndrome or medications that affect heart rhythm. Also share any history of serious heart disease, recent stroke, or low blood pressure.
