Bayview Pharmacy is pleased to provide Alendronate 70 mg/75 ml Oral Liquid (Gluten Free), a specially compounded medication for patients dealing with various bone-related conditions. Alendronate is a bisphosphonate medication that is primarily used in the treatment of osteoporosis, Paget's Disease, Osteomalacia, Hypercalcemia, and Osteopenia. It functions by decelerating the process of bone breakdown and enhancing bone density.

This oral liquid formulation is designed for easy ingestion and accurate dosage delivery. It is particularly beneficial for patients who find it difficult to swallow solid dosage forms, as well as for pediatric and geriatric populations. Alendronate is typically taken once a day, with a full glass of water, and on an empty stomach. It is crucial to wait at least 30 minutes before consuming anything other than water and to remain upright for at least 30 minutes post-administration to ensure optimal absorption.

For osteoporosis patients, Alendronate can aid in reducing the risk of fractures by increasing bone density. In the case of Paget's Disease, it can alleviate bone pain and slow disease progression. For those suffering from Osteomalacia, Alendronate can help alleviate bone pain and enhance bone strength. In patients with Hypercalcemia, it can assist in reducing calcium levels in the blood. Lastly, for those diagnosed with Osteopenia, Alendronate can help increase bone density and decrease the risk of fractures.

Alendronate 70 mg/75 ml Oral Liquid (Gluten Free) is a specially formulated medication designed for oral administration. This liquid form of medication provides a convenient and easily ingested dosage form, particularly beneficial for those who find swallowing solid dosage forms challenging, or for pediatric and geriatric populations. It is primarily used in the treatment of Osteoporosis, Paget's Disease, Osteomalacia, Hypercalcemia, and Osteopenia.

The medication works by inhibiting the breakdown of bone and increasing bone mineral density, thereby strengthening the bone structure. It is crucial to take Alendronate with a full glass of water and on an empty stomach. It should not be consumed with food, milk, or other calcium-containing products. To ensure optimal absorption, it is recommended to take Alendronate at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything other than plain water. Furthermore, patients should avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication to prevent potential esophageal irritation.

Alendronate is contraindicated in patients with hypocalcemia (low levels of calcium in their blood) or those who have a known allergy to any of the ingredients in the medication. It is also important for patients to inform their healthcare provider if they have any kidney or liver problems, or if they are taking any other medications. Alendronate may interact with other medications, potentially altering their effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Therefore, a thorough discussion about all current medications with the healthcare provider is essential before initiating Alendronate therapy.

If you have any questions or concerns about Alendronate or its potential interactions, it is recommended to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist for further information and guidance.

Enter the formula as a compound

Compounded preparations have no NDC, so this formula will not appear in your EHR's drug search. Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. If your EHR forces you to pick a listed drug, pick the closest entry for the active ingredient and put the full formula in the prescription body (the Sig or directions field), not in Notes to Pharmacy.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body. A free-text entry that does not validate as controlled will be rejected by your EPCS module.
