How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

Tadalafil 2.5 mg/0.1 ml Nasal Spray is a specialized medication designed to treat a range of conditions such as erectile dysfunction, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and benign prostatic hyperplasia. The active ingredient, tadalafil, is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. This compound functions by relaxing the muscles in the walls of the blood vessels, thereby facilitating increased blood flow to the penis and other areas of the body. This enhanced blood flow can significantly improve symptoms associated with these conditions.

The medication is delivered in a liquid formulation via a nasal spray, with each spray containing 2.5 mg of tadalafil. The recommended dosage is one spray in each nostril, once daily. It is crucial to remember that the spray should not be inhaled, but rather sprayed into the nostrils. Consistency in the timing of the medication is important, and it should be taken at the same time each day. It is also important to note that the medication should not be taken more than once per day.

Patients should be aware that Tadalafil 2.5 mg/0.1 ml Nasal Spray may cause side effects, including headache, nasal congestion, and dizziness. If any of these side effects occur, patients should immediately contact their healthcare provider. Healthcare providers should note that Tadalafil 2.5 mg/0.1 ml Nasal Spray is not recommended for use in patients with severe hepatic impairment or severe renal impairment. Additionally, Tadalafil 2.5 mg/0.1 ml Nasal Spray should not be used in combination with other PDE5 inhibitors.

Compounded preparations have no NDC, so this formula will not appear in your EHR's drug search. Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. If your EHR forces you to pick a listed drug, pick the closest entry for the active ingredient and put the full formula in the prescription body (the Sig or directions field), not in Notes to Pharmacy.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body. A free-text entry that does not validate as controlled will be rejected by your EPCS module.
