Testosterone 2.5% Scalp Lotion is a formulation designed for external application to the skin. It may interact with other medications, both oral and topical. It is crucial to inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist about all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. This is particularly important if you are taking medications that could affect the absorption of testosterone, such as antacids, calcium channel blockers, or certain antibiotics.

Patients should be aware that testosterone may interact with certain drugs used to treat mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. It may also interact with medications used to treat prostate cancer, like finasteride or dutasteride, and drugs used to manage high blood pressure, such as ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers.

Furthermore, testosterone may interact with certain drugs used to treat diabetes, such as insulin or sulfonylureas, and medications used to treat HIV/AIDS, such as protease inhibitors or non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

Testosterone 2.5% Scalp Lotion is a liquid or semi-liquid formulation designed for external application to the scalp. It is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness and other conditions related to androgen deficiency. The lotion works by increasing the amount of testosterone in the scalp, which in turn stimulates hair growth. It is typically applied twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, directly to the scalp and not to the surrounding skin. The lotion should be massaged into the scalp until it is completely absorbed to ensure optimal results.

Aside from treating male pattern baldness, Testosterone 2.5% Scalp Lotion is also used to manage other symptoms related to androgen deficiency. These may include low libido, fatigue, and depression. It is important to understand that while this medication can help manage these symptoms, it is not a cure. The lotion should be used as directed by a healthcare professional and should not be used for longer than the recommended time period.

If you have any questions or concerns about Testosterone 2.5% Scalp Lotion, its application, or how it works, do not hesitate to reach out. It is crucial to find the best treatment for your specific condition and to understand how your medication works. Remember, consistent and regular use of the lotion as directed is key to achieving the best possible results.

Compounded preparations have no NDC, so this formula will not appear in your EHR's drug search. Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. If your EHR forces you to pick a listed drug, pick the closest entry for the active ingredient and put the full formula in the prescription body (the Sig or directions field), not in Notes to Pharmacy.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body. A free-text entry that does not validate as controlled will be rejected by your EPCS module.
