Formula Information

A small arrow pointing down

This formulation, Camphor 0.2%/Eucalyptol 0.2%/Menthol 0.2% Nasal Liquid, is a specially designed liquid medication for nasal use. It is intended to administer medication, irrigation, or moisturization to the nasal cavity. This formulation is typically used for targeted treatment of various nasal conditions, allergies, congestion, or post-nasal drip. It is usually administered using a dropper or other suitable nasal delivery device.

The active ingredients in this formulation are Camphor, Eucalyptol, and Menthol, each at a concentration of 0.2%. Camphor is a compound that helps in relieving pain and swelling. It works by causing the skin to feel cool and then warm, which distracts you from feeling the aches/pains deeper in your muscles, joints, and tendons. Eucalyptol, on the other hand, is a natural organic compound that is known for its wide range of medicinal properties. It is often used in over-the-counter drugs like cough suppressants, mouthwash, and body powder. Eucalyptol has a cooling effect and is used to relieve pain. It also helps in reducing inflammation and congestion.

Menthol is another active ingredient in this formulation. It is an organic compound made synthetically or obtained from peppermint or other mint oils. Menthol has local anesthetic and counterirritant qualities, and it is often used to relieve minor throat irritation. Menthol also helps in soothing and cooling skin and is used to relieve minor aches and pains of the muscles/joints (such as muscle cramps, sprains, backache, or joint pain).

Together, these three active ingredients work synergistically to provide relief from nasal conditions, allergies, congestion, or post-nasal drip. The cooling effect of these ingredients helps in soothing the nasal cavity, reducing inflammation, and relieving pain. This formulation is a targeted treatment, meaning it works directly on the affected area.

For both patients and prescribers, it is important to note that this formulation should be used as directed by a healthcare professional. Overuse or misuse can lead to unwanted side effects. If you have any questions or concerns about this formulation, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at Bayview Pharmacy. Our team of knowledgeable compounding pharmacists is always here to assist you.

Drug Interactions

A small arrow pointing down

This formulation, containing Camphor 0.2%, Eucalyptol 0.2%, and Menthol 0.2%, is designed to alleviate symptoms associated with nasal conditions, allergies, congestion, or post-nasal drip. These active ingredients work synergistically to provide relief. Camphor acts as a mild local anesthetic and antimicrobial, Eucalyptol has anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties, and Menthol provides a cooling effect and helps in relieving nasal congestion.

While this formulation is generally considered safe, it's important to be aware of potential drug interactions. Although no specific drug interactions have been identified with this formulation, it's always important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you're currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Patients with a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to Camphor, Eucalyptol, or Menthol should avoid using this formulation. Additionally, caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver disease, as Camphor is metabolized in the liver and could potentially exacerbate liver conditions.

It's also important to note that while this formulation can help alleviate symptoms, it does not cure the underlying condition causing the symptoms. Therefore, it's crucial to seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen despite using this formulation.

For pregnant or breastfeeding women, it's recommended to consult a healthcare provider before using this formulation, as the safety of Camphor, Eucalyptol, and Menthol during pregnancy and lactation has not been fully established.

Lastly, this formulation is intended for nasal use only and should not be ingested or applied to the eyes or other sensitive areas. In case of accidental ingestion or application to sensitive areas, seek immediate medical attention.

If you have any questions or concerns about this formulation, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

This formulation of Camphor 0.2%/Eucalyptol 0.2%/Menthol 0.2% Nasal Liquid works by utilizing the therapeutic properties of its three active ingredients: camphor, eucalyptol, and menthol. Each of these components plays a crucial role in alleviating nasal conditions, allergies, congestion, or post-nasal drip.

Camphor is a terpenoid that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. When administered nasally, it helps to soothe the nasal passages and reduce inflammation, thereby relieving discomfort and facilitating easier breathing.

Eucalyptol, also known as cineole, is the primary component of eucalyptus oil. It is known for its potent anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. When used in a nasal formulation, eucalyptol can help to reduce inflammation in the nasal passages, kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria and viruses, and promote mucus clearance, thereby relieving symptoms of congestion and post-nasal drip.

Menthol is a natural compound obtained from peppermint or other mint oils. It has a cooling effect and is known to stimulate cold receptors in the skin, mucous membranes, and muscles. When applied to the nasal passages, it provides a cooling sensation that can help to soothe irritation, reduce inflammation, and improve airflow, thereby providing relief from nasal congestion and related symptoms.

Together, these three ingredients work synergistically to provide targeted treatment for a variety of nasal conditions. The liquid formulation allows for easy administration and ensures that the medication is delivered directly to the affected area.

It's important to note that while this formulation can provide symptomatic relief, it does not cure the underlying cause of the nasal condition. Therefore, it should be used in conjunction with other treatments as recommended by a healthcare provider.

If you have any questions about this formulation or how it works, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Our team of knowledgeable compounding pharmacists at Bayview Pharmacy is always here to help.

Compounded preparations have no NDC, so this formula will not appear in your EHR's drug search. Use your system's compound, non-formulary, or free-text prescription entry and name the preparation exactly as written in step 3. If your EHR forces you to pick a listed drug, pick the closest entry for the active ingredient and put the full formula in the prescription body (the Sig or directions field), not in Notes to Pharmacy.

Compounded preparations have no NDC and will not appear in your drug search. For EPCS to validate, select a drug entry your EHR recognizes as controlled, usually the bulk powder entry for the active ingredient (for example Ketamine (bulk) powder, not a branded product), then put the full formula from step 3 in the prescription body. A free-text entry that does not validate as controlled will be rejected by your EPCS module.
