Formula Information

A small arrow pointing down

Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%/Salicylic Acid 25% Topical Cream is a specially compounded medication designed for topical application. This formulation combines the potent corticosteroid, Clobetasol Propionate, with the keratolytic agent, Salicylic Acid, in a semisolid cream base. The cream is dispensed via a pump mechanism, which allows for convenient and controlled application on the skin.

Clobetasol Propionate, the primary active ingredient, is a highly potent corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation, itching, and redness. It is commonly used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. The inclusion of Salicylic Acid, a keratolytic (peeling agent), helps to soften and shed the outer layer of the skin. This aids in the removal of scales and crusts, promoting the healing of the skin underneath. The combination of these two active ingredients in one formulation provides a comprehensive treatment approach for various skin conditions.

Patients using this formulation should apply it to the affected area as directed by their healthcare provider. It is important to use this medication only on the skin. Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, or any areas of broken skin unless directed by your doctor. Side effects may include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, or redness at the application site. If these effects persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Prescribers should note that due to the potency of Clobetasol Propionate, this formulation should be used with caution in patients with a history of corticosteroid hypersensitivity, and in those with a history of local hypersensitivity to other corticosteroids. Long-term use, especially when occlusive dressings or large amounts of body surface area are involved, may result in systemic effects or skin atrophy.

At Bayview Pharmacy, we are committed to providing high-quality compounded medications tailored to the individual needs of our patients. If you have any questions about this formulation or its use, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Our team of knowledgeable compounding pharmacists is always here to help.

Drug Interactions

A small arrow pointing down

Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%/Salicylic Acid 25% Topical Cream is a potent formulation designed to treat a variety of skin conditions. However, it's important to be aware of potential drug interactions. Clobetasol propionate, a potent corticosteroid, may interact with other topically applied medications. Concurrent use of other corticosteroids or immunosuppressants may increase the risk of systemic side effects. It's recommended to avoid using other topical products on the same area of skin unless directed by a healthcare provider.

Salicylic acid, on the other hand, can enhance the absorption of other topically applied drugs due to its keratolytic properties. This could potentially increase the risk of systemic side effects, especially with medications that have a narrow therapeutic index. Additionally, salicylic acid may interact with systemic medications such as blood thinners, diabetes medications, and certain types of cancer treatments. It's important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter products and dietary supplements.

This formulation is designed to treat a variety of skin conditions. Clobetasol propionate works by reducing inflammation, itching, and redness, while salicylic acid helps to soften and shed the outer layer of skin. The salicylic acid helps to remove the scales, allowing the clobetasol propionate to penetrate more effectively and reduce inflammation.

Despite its effectiveness, this formulation should be used with caution. Long-term use of potent corticosteroids like clobetasol propionate can lead to skin thinning, stretch marks, and systemic side effects. Salicylic acid can cause skin irritation and should not be used on broken or inflamed skin. It's important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions and use this medication only as directed. If you experience any unusual side effects, discontinue use and contact your healthcare provider immediately.

If you have any questions about this formulation or its potential interactions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Bayview Pharmacy.

How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%/Salicylic Acid 25% Topical Cream is a potent combination of two active ingredients, each with a unique mechanism of action, designed to treat a variety of skin conditions. This formulation is dispensed in a pump mechanism, which allows for convenient and controlled application on the skin for localized treatment.

Clobetasol Propionate is a highly potent corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation, itching, and redness. It does this by suppressing the immune response in the skin, which can lead to these symptoms.

Salicylic Acid, on the other hand, is a keratolytic agent. This means it works by breaking down keratin, a protein that forms part of the skin structure. By breaking down keratin, Salicylic Acid helps to shed skin cells from the outer layer of the skin. This action can help to unclog pores and reduce scaling and thickness of lesions in conditions such as psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. It also has mild anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to reduce redness and swelling.

When combined in a topical cream, these two ingredients work together to provide a comprehensive treatment for a variety of skin conditions. The Clobetasol Propionate reduces inflammation and itching, while the Salicylic Acid helps to remove scales and unclog pores. This dual action can help to improve the appearance and feel of the skin, while also treating the underlying condition.

It's important to note that while this cream can provide significant relief from symptoms, it does not cure the underlying condition. It should be used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, under the guidance of a healthcare provider. As with any medication, it's important to use this cream as directed, and to discuss any potential side effects or interactions with your pharmacist or healthcare provider.

If you have any questions about Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%/Salicylic Acid 25% Topical Cream, or any other aspect of your treatment, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Bayview Pharmacy. Our team of knowledgeable compounding pharmacists is always here to help.

Other Uses

A small arrow pointing down

In addition to treating various skin conditions, Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%/Salicylic Acid 25% Topical Cream has other potential applications. It may be used as an adjunct therapy for other dermatological conditions that involve inflammation and scaling. Clobetasol Propionate, a potent corticosteroid, reduces swelling and itchiness, and Salicylic Acid, a keratolytic, assists in shedding of dead skin cells. As such, this formulation can be beneficial in managing different skin disorders like psoriasis and eczema where both inflammation and scaling are present. The cream's application can be controlled with the pump mechanism, giving users the ability to apply the product evenly and in calculated amounts.

It's essential for users to remember that self-medication can lead to overuse, and prolonged use of steroids can result in side effects such as skin thinning and appearance of stretch marks. Therefore, it's crucial to always consult with a healthcare provider before starting or changing the course of treatment.

For physicians and healthcare professionals, this formulation can be an advantageous addition to their treatment arsenal. Its both anti-inflammatory and keratolytic properties can help manage symptoms of various skin conditions effectively. However, given the strength of Clobetasol Propionate, it's recommended to track patient progress regularly, particularly for long-term use. The goal should always be to minimize exposure to potent corticosteroids while achieving the desired therapeutic effect.

If you have any questions about the use or ordering of this formulation, please feel free to get in touch with us at the Bayview Pharmacy. As a team of compounding pharmacists, we are committed to guiding you through any queries regarding this formulation, or any other prescription needs.
