Controlled substance prescriptions follow federal rules and Rhode Island rules on how they are transmitted, how they are refilled and how long they stay valid, so your prescriber may need to send a new prescription rather than authorize a refill. Compounded preparations are usually paid for out of pocket. Many plans do not cover compounded prescriptions, though some reimburse the patient afterwards if you submit an itemized receipt, which we can provide. In most cases, yes. Call us at 401-284-4505 with the name of your current pharmacy and we will request the prescription, or ask your prescriber to send a new one directly to us. You can also request a transfer online and we will contact your current pharmacy for you. Transferring a compounded prescription is often simpler when the prescriber resends it, because the formula and strength come through exactly as written. Refills on controlled substances follow state and federal rules and cannot always be transferred.
