Bayview in your state

Bayview Pharmacy and your state

A compounded prescription is made one at a time, for one patient, from a prescriber's written formula. Bayview Pharmacy has done that work since 2006 at 3844 Post Road in Warwick, Rhode Island, in labs built to USP 795, 797 and 800 standards for non-sterile and sterile preparations. Connecticut patients are served the same way as patients closer to the lab.

Bayview Pharmacy is licensed as a nonresident pharmacy by the Connecticut Commission of Pharmacy. We fill and ship compounded prescriptions to patients throughout Connecticut. Shipping is by UPS or USPS and typically takes 1 to 2 business days after the package leaves the pharmacy. The outer packaging is plain, temperature protection is added when a preparation calls for it, and expedited shipping can be arranged for an additional charge.

Patients in the eastern part of the state sometimes drive instead. Stonington is about an hour from our counter and New London roughly 65 minutes. Anyone is welcome to collect a prescription in person, though for most of Connecticut mail order is the practical choice.

Your prescriber sends the prescription: by e-prescribe, by fax to 401-284-4506, or on a Bayview order form. You can ask them to send it, and if you already fill a compounded prescription elsewhere, call 401-284-4505 and we will request a transfer. A pharmacist verifies the order, confirms anything unclear with the prescribing office, and compounding then takes typically 1 to 3 business days. Compounded preparations are not FDA-approved and are made only on a prescriber's order.

Formulations commonly requested by prescribers for Connecticut patients include Low Dose Naltrexone, Trimix injection, vaginal estriol, compounded tacrolimus, lidocaine preparations, pimobendan for dogs and preparations for hospice and palliative care.

Questions about cost, timing and paperwork are answered in the FAQ. Refills can be requested at refill, and Connecticut prescribers will find forms and account details on the providers page.

Questions from patients and prescribers

Does Bayview Pharmacy ship to Connecticut?

Yes. We ship compounded prescriptions to patients anywhere in Connecticut. Packages leave our Warwick lab by UPS or USPS and typically arrive 1 to 2 business days later. Packaging is plain, and preparations that require temperature protection are packed accordingly. Expedited shipping is available for an additional charge. Patients in eastern Connecticut sometimes collect at the counter instead, which removes the transit time entirely.

Is Bayview a licensed pharmacy in Connecticut?

Yes. Bayview Pharmacy holds a nonresident pharmacy license from the Connecticut Commission of Pharmacy, which allows us to fill prescriptions for Connecticut patients and ship them from Rhode Island. We are a 503A compounding pharmacy, compounding for individual patients on individual prescriptions rather than producing stock. Our sterile and non-sterile work is done under USP 797, 800 and 795 standards. Compounded preparations are not FDA-approved.

How long does shipping to Connecticut take?

Typically 1 to 2 business days by UPS or USPS once the package leaves the pharmacy. Add the compounding time before that, typically 1 to 3 business days after the prescription is verified. If the prescription needs a call to the prescriber to confirm a detail, that can add a day. Expedited shipping is available for an additional charge when the timing is tight.

Can my Connecticut doctor send a compounded prescription to Bayview?

Yes. Connecticut prescribers can e-prescribe to Bayview Pharmacy in Warwick, Rhode Island, fax to 401-284-4506, or complete one of our order forms. We fill prescriptions written by the patient's own prescriber; Bayview does not write prescriptions and does not provide consultations. A prescriber who wants to discuss dosage forms, strengths or bases before writing can reach a pharmacist at 401-284-4505.

Do you ship controlled substances to Connecticut?

Yes. Bayview compounds Schedule II to IV preparations for Connecticut patients when a licensed prescriber sends a valid prescription. How those prescriptions are transmitted, how long they remain valid and whether refills are allowed is governed by federal rules and Connecticut rules, not by us. Your prescriber may need to send a new prescription for each fill. Call 401-284-4505 with questions about a particular preparation.

Can I pick up my prescription in person?

Yes. Our counter is at 3844 Post Road in Warwick, Rhode Island, open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm. It is about an hour from Stonington and roughly 65 minutes from New London, so pickup is realistic from eastern Connecticut. Call 401-284-4505 before driving so we can confirm the prescription is finished and checked.

Does Bayview take Connecticut insurance?

Compounded preparations are usually paid out of pocket. Some Connecticut plans reimburse the patient after the fact if an itemized receipt is submitted, and we can provide one. We tell you the price before compounding begins, so you can decide before any work starts. For background on why compounded prescriptions are billed differently, read do compounding pharmacies take insurance.

Can I transfer my compounded prescription to Bayview?

Yes, in most cases. Call 401-284-4505 and tell us where the prescription is now, or have your prescriber send it to us again. You can also request a transfer online and we will contact your current pharmacy for you. A fresh prescription from the prescriber is usually the cleaner route because the formula, strength and base arrive exactly as written. Refills on controlled substances follow state and federal rules and may require a new prescription rather than a transfer.
