This formulation is a compounded topical cream containing Chloramphenicol 1%, Hydrocortisone 0.5%, Niacinamide 3%, and Sulfur 7.8%. It is dispensed in a pump mechanism for easy and controlled application on the skin. The cream is designed to deliver localized treatment, allowing the active ingredients to be absorbed directly into the affected area.

It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and multiplication of bacteria. This makes it useful in treating various bacterial skin infections.

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation, itching, and redness. It is commonly used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash. The inclusion of Hydrocortisone in this formulation helps to alleviate the symptoms associated with these conditions.

Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, has anti-inflammatory properties and can improve the skin's barrier function. It can also reduce the production of sebum, a type of oily substance that can lead to acne. Therefore, Niacinamide is beneficial in the treatment of acne and other inflammatory skin conditions.

Sulfur is a keratolytic agent, meaning it promotes the shedding of the top layer of skin. This helps to unclog pores and reduce inflammation. Sulfur also has antimicrobial properties, which can help to prevent the growth of bacteria on the skin.

This formulation is a versatile treatment option for a variety of skin conditions. It combines the antibacterial properties of Chloramphenicol, the anti-inflammatory and itch-relieving effects of Hydrocortisone, the sebum-reducing and barrier-enhancing effects of Niacinamide, and the keratolytic and antimicrobial properties of Sulfur. This makes it a comprehensive treatment option for conditions such as acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and other bacterial skin infections.

As with any medication, it is important to use this cream as directed by your healthcare provider. If you have any questions about this formulation or how to use it, please reach out to us at Bayview Pharmacy. Our knowledgeable team of compounding pharmacists is here to help.

How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

This topical cream is a combination of four active ingredients: Chloramphenicol, Hydrocortisone, Niacinamide, and Sulfur. Each of these ingredients plays a unique role in treating various skin conditions.

Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. When applied topically, Chloramphenicol penetrates the skin and acts directly on the bacteria, killing them and preventing the spread of infection.

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation and immune responses. It helps to alleviate symptoms such as redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort caused by various skin conditions. Hydrocortisone achieves this by suppressing the body's immune response, thereby reducing inflammation and irritation.

Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to improve the skin's barrier function. It can help to reduce redness and swelling, improve skin texture, and hydrate the skin. Niacinamide also has the ability to reduce the production of sebum, a type of oil produced by the skin that can contribute to acne.

Sulfur is a keratolytic agent, meaning it works by causing the outer layer of the skin to shed. This helps to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and reduce the formation of blackheads and whiteheads. Sulfur also has antimicrobial properties and can help to kill bacteria on the skin's surface.

When combined in a topical cream, these four ingredients work together to treat a variety of skin conditions. The antibiotic properties of Chloramphenicol, the anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressing effects of Hydrocortisone, the skin barrier-enhancing and sebum-reducing abilities of Niacinamide, and the keratolytic and antimicrobial effects of Sulfur all contribute to the overall effectiveness of this formulation.

This cream is dispensed in a pump mechanism, which allows for convenient and controlled application. The semisolid preparation is designed to be easily absorbed by the skin, ensuring that the active ingredients can effectively treat the affected area.
