Sulfur is a mineral element used in topical skin products that Bayview compounds to a prescriber's order.
Sulfur is used in dermatologic preparations and has antifungal, antibacterial, and keratolytic activity.[1] It has historically been used in skin disorders such as acne vulgaris, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, pityriasis versicolor, scabies, and warts, alone or combined with agents such as sodium sulfacetamide or salicylic acid.[1]
Under FDA's over-the-counter drug regulations, sulfur 3 to 10 percent is a permitted active ingredient in acne products,[2] and sulfur 2 to 5 percent is a permitted active ingredient in products for the control of dandruff.[3]
