Ketotifen Fumarate is a potent antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer commonly used in compounded formulations to manage allergic conditions.
Ketotifen fumarate is a salt form of ketotifen, an antihistamine that also has mast cell stabilizing activity.[1] Antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers work together to prevent the release of inflammatory substances from mast cells, reducing allergic responses.[1]
In the United States, ketotifen is available over the counter as an ophthalmic solution containing ketotifen fumarate 0.035% (equivalent to 0.025% ketotifen), labeled to temporarily relieve itchy eyes due to pollen, ragweed, grass, animal hair and dander.[2]
