Baclofen is a muscle relaxant and antispastic agent commonly used in compounded formulations to manage spasticity associated with conditions such as multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries.
Baclofen is a skeletal muscle relaxant used to manage spasticity associated with conditions such as multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries.[1] It acts as a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonist at GABA-B receptors, reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters and stimulating inhibitory neuronal signals.[1]

Baclofen is used to relieve flexor spasms and clonus associated with spasticity.[1] Prescribers should be aware of its potential side effects, including sedation, confusion, weakness, and vertigo, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.[1] Abrupt discontinuation can cause seizures and hallucinations.[1]
Baclofen should be given cautiously and at reduced doses in patients with impaired renal function.[1]
